Welcome to Queer Space Bristol

Sounds queer, I’m in!

Our vision is for a world in which all LGBTQIA+ people are able to live freely and fully.

Our mission is to create joyful and affirming spaces for our community to experience and cultivate connection, creativity, and belonging. We do this by producing a wide range of creative arts and wellbeing events - developed for and led by LGBTQIA+ people in Bristol and beyond.

What people are saying

“Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I liked having the freedom to just make what we wanted. Molly was so great and encouraging. The venue was great.”

“Such a relaxed space to get involved with the material. Easy to chat or just focus on the making.”

“As a perfectionist, I found the slow, welcoming mood of the workshop allowed me to chill out and just create for a couple of hours.”

Clay Crafts with Molly Hawkins

“Thank you, thank you, thank you for the workshop on Wednesday, it was genuinely the first lockdown workshop I've truly connected with and I feel like that was down to your and Aisha's efforts to create an inclusive, explorative space to be a part of. I felt nurtured, supported and gently guided to take ownership of my identities and my privilege in ways that were constructive, and being given the opportunity to witness others go through the same process of reflection was so encouraging. It's motivated me to carry on this kind of critical reflection and explore self-compassion meditation in more depth.”

Reaching for Radical Inclusion by Aisha Ali

“Oh it was wonderful! - just what I needed and something that I wouldn't have enjoyed nearly as much online.”

“I enjoyed having time to think solely about movement and explore movement through the facilitator's prompts and descriptions.”

“Relaxed, at peace. Enjoyed being in a very accepting and safe space.”

Why the need for Queer Space Bristol?

There has been a rapid decline in LGBTQIA+ venues across the country over the last decade, and although ours is not a fixed space, the feedback from our events so far tells us that these spaces are just as vital as they ever were. The location of our space changes; events will be held at our partner venues, outdoors, and online, but the ethos of the space stays the same. If you are LGBTQIA+ then this is your space and you are welcome.

Our aims at Queer Space Bristol are twofold. Firstly, to use the arts to support a thriving local LGBTQ+ community. And secondly, to platform and create work for local queer creatives, artists and wellbeing practitioners.

“I think this is the first time in over a year I've felt like I could just be me in a room.”

Pay what you decide

All our workshops and events are Pay What You Decide. We operate on a generosity basis and ask that you use the price brackets listed on our booking forms as a guide. You can enter any amount. All donations will go directly towards covering the costs of running the workshops.

Access

We would like to make all our workshops and events as accessible as possible. Please get in touch with your access needs. Currently all venues that we operate within are fully accessible, with access lifts, changing facilities and gender neutral toilets.

There are no Gatekeepers to Queerdom

We may all have had experiences of feeling like we don’t fit in, both in the queer scene and in society, so it is vital to us that we cultivate a space where we feel we can bring all of our self. Please help us in creating this for each other.
